2020/21 State Championships 

Kingston Beach Sailing Club

NOTICE OF RACE

 

The above Championships will be conducted by the Kingston Beach Sailing Club, in conjunction with the International Mirror Class Association of Tasmania (IMCAT).

 

1.    RULES:    

1.1    The regatta will be governed by the current rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) 

  1. The special regulations of Australian Sailing will apply.

  2. The rules of the International Mirror Class of Australia will apply.

  3. All sailors shall wear approved buoyancy aids at all times afloat. Failure to comply with this instruction may result in disqualification without protest. See Rule 40.1.

  4. Rule 26 “Starting Sequence” will be amended to a 1 minute interval between steps. Warning Signal – Class Flag raised 3 minutes before Start Signal,

Preparatory Signal – Preparatory Flag raised 2 minutes before Start Signal,

Preparatory Flag lowered – 1 Minute before Start Signal,

Start Signal – Class Flag lowered

  1. If the Answering Pennant (Code Flag AP) is displayed for a postponement on the water there will be no minimum time for display and it will be lowered a soon as possible by the PRO. There will only be the mandatory 1 minute minimum break after lowering the AP before initiating the Start Sequence.

 

2.    Eligibility and  Entry:

 

2.1    The regatta is open to all registered boats of the International Mirror Class Association of Tasmania. Persons wishing to enter must be financial members of the Association and members of an AS affiliated Yacht Club on completion of the on line Entry Form: https:/kbsc.org.au/events/ and payment of the required fee,

2.3    There will be a separate category for single handed Mirrors. 

 

2.4    All those taking part in this regatta do so at their own risk and     responsibility. The organising authority shall not be responsible for the     seaworthiness of a yacht whose entry has been accepted, or for the     adequacy or sufficiency of its equipment. Attention is drawn to     Fundamental Rule part 1 item 3, which states: “The responsibility for a     boat’s decision to participate in a race or to continue racing is hers     alone.”

 

No member or members of the organising authority, nor any other party involved with this regatta, shall accept any responsibility for, or be liable for, any accident, injury, damage or personal loss (material or otherwise) of any yacht, participant, or third party before, during or after any race of the regatta.   The safety of any yacht and her entire management, including insurance, shall be the sole responsibility of the entrant to this regatta.

 

  1. Fees:  

4.1    An Entry fee of $50 will apply. This includes a meal ticket for helm and crew for the Saturday evening. IMCAT membership will be done via email as required.

4.2    Late entries may be accepted however an additional fee of $5.00 will apply.

5.    Schedule of Events:

 

Race times listed are the earliest time of the warning signal for the Mirror Class.

All races will be sailed back to back with any break at the discretion of the PRO. No warning signal will be made after 1630 hrs on Saturday or 1500 hrs on Sunday.

        

It is planned that each race will be around 25 minutes in duration. This is a guide only.

 

Boats have 10 minutes to finish after the first boat has finished. Boats not finishing within that time, where possible, will be given a place after the finished boats, based on their position around the last mark in the preceding lap.

 

The Trophy Presentation will be approximately one hour after the completion of     the last race on the final day of the series.          


 

6.    Measurements:

 

    Measurement is not required but each boat should be able to submit proof of holding a valid measurement certificate if so required.

This requirement may be waived for older boats by request to and acceptance by the Race Committee.


 

7.    Sailing Instructions

The sailing instructions will be available at the host club after 9 am on the day the series commences. 

 

8.    Regatta Site

The regatta site will be the Kingston Beach Sailing Club. 

 

9.    Racing Area

The racing area will be on the Derwent River in proximity to the Kingston Beach Sailing Club.

 

10.    Courses:

    The course shall be as described in the Sailing Instructions.

 

11.    Scoring.

    The Low-Point scoring system, Appendix A4 of the RRS will apply with a minimum of two (2) races completed to constitute a series. If seven (7) or more races are completed, a boat’s two worst scores shall be discarded, five (5) or six (6) races are completed a boat’s worst score shall be discarded. If two (2), three (3) or four (4) races are sailed, all races will count.

13.    Prizes

        1st, 2nd , 3rd  overall. 

        1st “Classic Mirror” 

1st Youth (helm and crew 16-19 years as at 1st January 2021. This does not preclude Junior crew)

        1st Junior (helm and crew under 16 years as at 1st January 2021)

         A prize will also be awarded for first in the Rookie Division as determined by IMCAT.

        Other prizes may be awarded.

 

14.    SUPPORT BOATS / COACHING

    Team leaders, coaches and other support boats shall maintain a minimum distance of 50 metres from all competitors while racing and shall obey all instructions from official boats.

    However those boats considered “Rookies” by the Race Committee may be coached on the water by approved coach boats only when they are in an ‘end-of fleet’ position and only if the coach boat(s) movement does not in any way affect any other competitors. This may be revoked at any time.

 

15.    OTHER INFORMATION

A meal will be available at the Kingston Beach Sailing Club after sailing on the Saturday night .The cost of the meal will be included in the entry fee for helm and crew. The cost for extra people is $10/head. 

The International Mirror AGM is scheduled for 5.30 pm Saturday 13th March (alternatively soon after sailing finishes or if delayed racing, earlier in the day.)
