NOTICE OF RACE

1 Rules 

• The regatta will be governed by the current rules as defined by the O’pen Skiff Class Rules and The Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS). 

• The Australian Sailing Special Regulations Part 2 (for off the beach boats) shall apply. 

• All sailors shall wear approved buoyancy aids at all times afloat. Failure to comply with this instruction may result in disqualification without protest. See rule 40.1. 

• Rule 26 “Starting Sequence” will be amended to a 1 minute interval between steps.

2 Eligibility & Entry 

• The regatta is open to boats complying with the current O’pen Skiff Class Rules and all sailors shall be financial members of a yacht club that is affiliated with Australian Sailing. 

• Sailors who would like to receive coaching during the event are encouraged to enter the Green Fleet division. Sailors entering the Green Fleet should be of a level similar and/or equal to Tackers 3. 

• Eligible boats shall enter by registering online through the Kingston Beach Sailing Club website events page: https://www.kbsc.org.au/events/ 

3 Insurance & Disclaimer of Liability 

• Each participating boat shall be insured with valid third-party liability insurance with a minimum cover of $AU10 000 000.00 per event or the equivalent. All com petitors that complete the entry process are deemed to have made a declaration that they hold such cover. 

• Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See Part 1 (Fun damental Rules) Item 3, Decision to Race. The organizing authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the regatta. 

4 Fees 

• An entry fee of $30 will apply - this includes a meal ticket for the Saturday Night dinner. Payment details are made available on completion of the online entry.

This training session will be hosted by the 2019 U/13 O’pen Skiff World Champion - Breanne Wadley. 

Briefing 1130 

Session 1 1233 (First Warning Signal) 

BBQ Dinner At the conclusion of sailing 

Sunday 14th March 

Session 2 0933 (First Warning Signal) 

Presentations As soon as possible after racing 

All races will be sailed back to back with a break for lunch at the discretion of the PRO. No warning signal will be made after 1600 hrs on Saturday or 1500 hrs on Sunday. It is planned that each race will be around 25 minutes in duration. Boats have 10 minutes to finish after the first boat has finished. Boats not finishing within that time, where possible, will be given a place after the finished boats, based on their position around the last mark in the preceding lap. 

6 Sailing Instructions 

The sailing instructions will be available at the host club after 9 am on the day the series commences. 

7 Venue 

The regatta will be hosted by the Kingston Beach Sailing Club and sailed on the River Derwent in close proximity to the club. 

8 Scoring 

The Low-Point scoring system (Appendix A4 - RRS) will apply. A minimum of two completed races will be required to constitute a series. If seven or more races are completed a boat’s two worst scores will be discarded. If five or six races are com pleted a boat’s worst score will be discarded. If two, three or four races are sailed, all races will count. 

9 Prizes 

• 1st, 2nd, 3rd Overall 

• 1st, 2nd, 3rd Green Fleet 

• Additional prizes may be awarded at the discretion of the organising authority for any tricks, stunts and general entertainment provided by sailors before/after or between races. 

10 Support Boats & Coaching 

Support and coach boats shall remain 50 metres outside the course area and to lee ward of all competitors when racing. The course area is defined as the area a boat is likely to sail in. 

Coaching within the course area is permitted only for Green Fleet participants.
